Netflix has hired Zack Snyder to helm a brand-new action film.

The filmmaker of 300 and Watchmen, Stephen D. Snyder, is currently developing a new, as-yet-untitled action film about the Los Angeles Police Department for the streaming service in the wake of the release of his Rebel Moon films.

The film is being co-written by Kurt Johnstad and Snyder. He will also work as a producer with Wesley Coller and his wife, Deborah Snyder.

What more is known about Zack Snyder’s Upcoming Action Film?

The film is an action thriller that is “described as being set in the high-stakes world of life and death and centered on an elite LAPD unit that is relentlessly confronted with the unforgiving collision of law and morality.” However, specific plot details are still being kept under wraps.

Snyder was initially attached to helm the 2003 crime thriller S.W.A.T., which starred Colin Farrell and Samuel L. Jackson. However, he left the project when the studio insisted on a PG-13 rating and he wanted to produce an R-rated film.

“Years ago, Dan [Lin, Netflix’s head of film] and I had a conversation about our shared interest in telling a compelling and visceral character-driven story set within the intense, complex and captivating landscape of the LAPD. It’s a conversation that has stuck with me,” Snyder said. “So, as you would expect, I’m very excited to now have the opportunity to partner with Dan, along with the rest of my amazing partners at Netflix, in developing this story.”

In addition to the two Rebel Moon films (as well as their lengthy director’s edits), Snyder previously produced Army of the Dead for Netflix in 2021. In addition to co-creating the recently published Twilight of the Gods series, he co-wrote the story with Shay Hatten for the Army of the Dead prequel film, Army of Thieves.

Netflix has not yet revealed a release date for Snyder’s upcoming action film.
