Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) announced that its SUV, the Grand Vitara, has surpassed a significant milestone, achieving sales of over 200,000 units within just 23 months of its launch. This accomplishment marks the Grand Vitara as the fastest-selling midsize SUV in India to reach this figure, highlighting its popularity among consumers. Launched in September 2022, the Grand Vitara is available in various models.
Commenting on this milestone, Partho Banerjee, Senior Executive Officer, Marketing & Sales, Maruti Suzuki India Limited, remarked that the Grand Vitara has been a crucial addition to their SUV lineup. He noted that the vehicle has not only met but exceeded expectations by reaching 200,000 sales in a record time, attributing its success to the innovative Strong Hybrid technology that encourages more sustainable consumer choices.
The Grand Vitara held a 12% market share in the competitive midsize SUV segment during Q1 FY25. The SUV is available in multiple variants, including strong hybrid, CNG, and standard petrol, with an optional AllGrip Select AWD system. Maruti Suzuki highlights that the strong hybrid version of the Grand Vitara can travel over 1,200 km on a full tank, emitting fewer pollutants, which was showcased in a recent campaign.
The Grand Vitara’s Strong Hybrid technology combines an Internal Combustion Engine with Electric Motors powered by a Lithium-ion battery, allowing the vehicle to operate up to 60% in EV mode. This not only provides a quiet driving experience but also emphasizes eco-friendliness. The SUV is equipped with numerous safety features, including a Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) and an Acoustic Vehicle Alerting System (AVAS) in the hybrid variant.
Together with these high-end features, the Grand Vitara also has a panoramic sunroof, ventilated seats, a Clarion sound system, a PM 2.5 air cabin filter, a nine-inch Smart Play Pro+ entertainment system, a Head-Up Display (HUD), a 360-degree camera system, wireless charging, and a semi-digital instrument cluster with controls mounted on the steering wheel. Being the only CNG SUV available in India with a six airbag option makes it stand out.
Sharing its platform with the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, the Grand Vitara is powered by a 1.5L mild-hybrid four-cylinder petrol engine and a 1.5L three-cylinder strong hybrid petrol engine. A seven-seater version of the Grand Vitara is anticipated to be launched next year.
