WhatsApp is developing a new feature that would let users record and save voice messages to their devices. The new feature was initially seen in the WhatsApp beta update for iPhone, but there have been a number of signs that it might also make its way into the Android version of the app.
Users will need to download 150MB of additional app data in order to transcribe their voice notes, according to a report published by WABetainfo. Advanced speech recognition technology is reportedly the foundation of the new function, which maintains end-to-end encryption while operating locally on the user’s smartphone.
Users will apparently be able to use the new capability to read their voice messages after downloading the extra data. The new feature can come in handy especially when playing the voice recording is challenging.
As reported by a new report from WABetainfo, which references the WhatsApp Beta for Android version 2.24.13.8, WhatsApp is also trying to improve the feature by letting users select the language in which audio transcripts are shown. According to the study, there are currently five languages available: Hindi, English, Russian, Portuguese (Brazil), and Spanish. Users will apparently be required to download the supplementary data package in order to enable the transcribing process after choosing their language.
Although WABetainfo has observed the capability in multiple beta versions, users will need to wait for WhatsApp to formally introduce the feature before they can begin transcribing their audio notes.
WhatsApp to improve audio and video call quality in low network areas:
Recently, WhatsApp released an upgrade that promises to enhance the quality of audio and video calls even in locations with weak or unreliable networks. Recently, the platform introduced MLow codec, a technology that enhances call quality and increases noise and echo cancellation for mobile phone calls.
In locations with high-speed internet access, video calls will have a greater resolution. It explained,“Audio is crisper overall, even if you have poor network connectivity or are using an older device,”
