WhatsApp is reportedly developing a new iOS feature that will facilitate music sharing on status updates by integrating Spotify. The latest beta version includes an enhancement that eliminates the need to copy, paste, or forward links, making the process more seamless and intuitive.

Spotify Integration for WhatsApp Status Updates

The iOS app version 25.8.10.72 shows that WhatsApp is apparently working on a new feature that would integrate Spotify with status updates.

When Spotify’s share sheet was released, iOS users may notice a new Status option, which would make music sharing on WhatsApp comparable to Instagram’s current offering. In the upcoming weeks, more iOS beta users should be able to access the new feature, which is still in development and not yet accessible to the majority of beta testers. For enhanced privacy, WhatsApp’s end-to-end encryption will be preserved while sharing music in status updates.

The Spotify connection is presently being developed for a future version of WhatsApp, according to WABetaInfo, a trustworthy source for updates. The most recent beta version of WhatsApp for iOS, 25.8.10.72, was found to have this capability.

Users will be able to share music on their status updates, along with a preview that includes the song title, artist name, and album cover, according to screenshots that the tracker has published. A direct connection that launches the song on Spotify via a “Play on Spotify” option is also anticipated to be part of the feature. Users will notice a new “Status” option on the Spotify for iOS share sheet once this capability is completely implemented.

The goal of this update is to bring WhatsApp’s music-sharing features into line with those of Instagram, another service owned by Meta Platforms. In the upcoming weeks, more WhatsApp for iOS beta users are expected to have access to this feature.

Motion photographs offer a better media-sharing experience by capturing fleeting movement both before and after a still image. This function, which was previously available on Samsung Galaxy, Google Pixel, and Apple iPhones (known as Live Photos on iOS), will soon be available to Android users. Users will be able to transmit either a static image or a motion photo using a new button in the gallery sheet. Recipients will be able to view the animated image even if their device does not support motion photos.

Similar Features Are Being Developed for Android

Curiously, WhatsApp on Android is also working on a similar functionality. According to reports earlier this month, the Spotify connection was discovered in the Android beta version of WhatsApp, 2.25.8.3, which is accessible through the Google Play Beta Program. This suggests that WhatsApp is dedicated on improving the iOS and Android platforms’ music sharing features.
