Meta AI is developing a new voice chat function that will let users provide direct commands to the AI chatbot via voice messages.

By introducing new AI chatbot capabilities that stop consumers from depending on other platforms, Meta is acquiring a competitive advantage in the AI market. According to a recent WabetaInfo article, a new AI function that will enable users to give voice instructions and do tasks immediately is under development. Users will be able to conduct speech-based interactions with WhatsApp soon thanks to the AI voice chat functionality.

The Google Play Store beta version of WhatsApp for Android 2.24.18.18 was the platform where the AI voice capability was initially observed. If all goes well, users might soon see the AI voice chat feature in the upcoming stable WhatsApp version.

The voice-based interactions with Meta AI on WhatsApp will allow for a hands-free mode, much like text-based interactions do. Speaking is quicker than typing, thus the new voice option will make conversations speedier while also providing users with more convenience. Similar to Apple devices’ Siri AI speech assistant, users can select the voice of their choice.

WhatsApp is testing a shortcut that requires just one button press to activate the AI voice chat function on the app. With voice commands, the AI may respond to users’ questions and carry out certain actions based on the permissions granted to it. It’s possible that the shortcut will be created as a floating button inside the chat list.

In the chat window itself, it is simple to enable or disable the AI speech option. When voice mode is enabled, users can let the AI listen to voices and conversations until they are asked to stop. Additionally, a visual indicator will be shown to let consumers know how the AI voice conversation is doing at all times. When a user exits the AI chat window, the listening capability automatically stops and the visual indicator vanishes.

A unified Contact syncing and filtering tool is being developed by WhatsApp in addition to the new voice command control. The Android 2.24.18.14 beta version of WhatsApp was the first to reveal the underdevelopment functionality. With the regular addition of these features, WhatsApp will maintain its position as the market leader in social media communications.
