By March 2025, Honda Motorcycles & Scooters India is set to introduce an electric version of its iconic Activa scooter. Honda, one of the leading motorcycle manufacturers in India, has consistently maintained a strong market presence with a lineup of reliable and high-performance two-wheelers. The Activa, in particular, has been a best-seller in the Indian market for nearly two decades and continues to be a dominant player in the scooter segment.
At the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers’ 64th Annual Convention in Delhi, Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India Ltd. CEO Tsutsumu Otani confirmed that the company had initially delayed the launch of its electric scooter by at least a year. However, Otani now revealed that the highly anticipated Activa Electric will finally be introduced to the market in March 2025.
The expected price range for the Honda Activa Electric is between ₹1,00,000 to ₹1,20,000, positioning it as a competitor to other popular electric scooters in the Indian market, such as the Bajaj Chetak and TVS iQube. This price point suggests that Honda is aiming for the mainstream consumer base, offering an affordable yet high-quality electric alternative.
One of the key features anticipated for the electric Activa is a removable or replaceable battery. This innovation is expected to enhance the convenience of charging, allowing users to remove the battery for charging instead of relying on long cables that need to stretch from the charging point to where the scooter is parked. This will undoubtedly make the electric Activa more user-friendly, especially for those living in urban areas with limited parking spaces.
In terms of design, the electric Activa is expected to retain the familiar dimensions of the current model while potentially being slightly lighter due to its electric motor. The scooter is rumored to feature an all-LED headlamp and indicators, giving it a modern and sleek appearance.
Additional features likely to be included in the electric Activa are disc brakes on both the front and rear wheels, a fully digital instrument cluster, and Bluetooth connectivity, which are increasingly becoming standard offerings in the electric scooter segment. These enhancements will provide users with a more connected and tech-savvy riding experience, further aligning the Activa Electric with contemporary market demands.
As the electric two-wheeler market grows rapidly in India, Honda’s Activa Electric is poised to make a significant impact. With its legacy of reliability and the added benefits of electric mobility, it has the potential to further strengthen Honda’s foothold in the market while providing a sustainable transportation option for Indian consumers.
