Toyota Launches First Clean Tech & EV R&D Hub in Bengaluru

The research facility comes after Toyota last year reorganized India to be the hub of its operations across the Middle East, East Asia and Oceania region. The company has also announced a series of priority investments to mark India as a global hub for clean and green technologies.
Toyota and Suzuki’s Partnership in the EV Sector
R&D and product development are being integrated by Toyota and Suzuki to further solidify their collaboration. One notable example is the impending Toyota Urban Cruiser EV, which is a rebranded Suzuki e-Vitara that will be manufactured in Suzuki’s Gujarat plant. Their initial move into the Indian and international EV markets is this.
India will Serve as a Global Center for green Technology
To establish India as a global center for clean and green technologies, Toyota has announced a number of strategic initiatives.
After making comparable investments in China and Thailand, the India research center will be Toyota’s third R&D site outside of Japan in the Asia-Pacific area. Like Mercedes-Benz’s Bengaluru center, which employs over 9,000 people, it will first serve the Indian market but may eventually develop into a global R&D hub.
The model, which will begin production at Suzuki Motor Gujarat in 2025, is the first move the two Japanese automakers will make in India as part of their joint strategy to enter the Indian and international EV markets.
