Elon Musk established the brain technology business Neuralink.
The first person to receive a Neuralink brain implant chip, Noland Arbaugh, recently discussed how the cutting-edge technology changed his life. In an exclusive interview with Will Reeve of “Good Morning America,” Mr. Arbaugh claimed that the device has allowed him to virtually fully control how he uses a computer using just his thoughts.
“It’s not something I could do before, but I can operate a computer just like anyone else,” Mr. Arbaugh said.
He went on to say that taking part in cutting-edge scientific studies will open doors for improving the lives of those who are paralysed. “I noticed that by taking this action, I would prevent a lot of pain and hardships for people in the future,” he continued.
Even though the January 2024 operation went without any issues, the business almost had the devices removed from his brain due to some recent technological problems. Because several of the implant’s threads retracted, some data was lost. Mr. Arbaugh claimed he became emotional because he thought he would lose the benefits the device had given him.
“It was quite difficult to give up all of the incredible things I could achieve. “I believe I cried tears afterward,” Mr. Arbaugh continued. However, Neuralink was able to enhance Mr. Arbaugh’s connection by making changes to the technology.
He now expresses hope that the fully impairing effects of spinal cord injuries may eventually fade, adding, “I don’t think it’s as far away as people might think.”
“It will be incredible when a person with a spinal cord damage can enter a hospital, go through surgery, and leave in a few days. I believe it will occur,” he continued.
Unexpectedly, eight years ago, he had a “freak diving accident” that left him with a spinal cord injury. In 2016, he worked as a child counselor at a summer camp when he suffered an accident that left him quadriplegic. He was able to successfully earn $10,000 for the purchase of an accessible custom-built van in 2017 through a GoFundMe campaign.
Neuralink: What is it?
Elon Musk established the brain technology business Neuralink. Through its implant, a patient can operate a computer with just their thoughts. According to Mr. Musk, the company would first serve patients with severe physical disabilities such as quadriplegia or paralysis of the cervical spinal cord.
The goal is to enhance human potential, cure neurological conditions such as Parkinson’s or ALS, and perhaps eventually establish a mutually beneficial partnership between humans and artificial intelligence.
