WhatsApp facilitates communication with your loved ones. In addition to sending them a message, you can reach them by making a phone or video call. To provide a better experience, Meta has also been gradually enhancing WhatsApp’s calling features, such as call scheduling and increased group support. All the same, calls done over mobile networks behave differently than WhatsApp VoIP calls because the calls are not recorded in the Phone app’s call log. Fortunately, this might not last long.

It looks that WhatsApp is attempting to link the call log of the Google Phone app with its call list. The integration was initially noticed by a user on X.

Although specifics are still unknown, it is evident from the posted screenshot that calls made over WhatsApp would show up in the call log with a WhatsApp tag. This will make it easier for you to differentiate between conventional phone calls and WhatsApp VoIP calls.

It is likely that you need to be using the most recent beta version of the Google Phone app and have Google’s servers pushing the feature to your phone.

Given that the snapshot of the Phone app displays VoIP calls from WhatsApp, it is possible that other widely used calling apps such as Skype, Viber, and Telegram will also be included.

Third-party VoIP calls appear on the iPhone’s native Phone app, demonstrating the existence of this WhatsApp call record integration in the dialer app on iOS. A voice or video call is immediately started by tapping on an entry.

On the other hand, the Calls tab within the WhatsApp app allows you to check your call logs. Your call history cannot be accessed in any other manner. If you prefer to talk to your loved ones via WhatsApp, an iPhone-like integration for the Google Phone app will speed up the process of making a WhatsApp call.

Additionally, it was discovered that WhatsApp was developing a favorites tab for the call log, which would provide fast access to preferred contacts. The stable release of this functionality may not happen for some time as this feature is still in beta testing.
