The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Sony Pictures Networks India has been appointed as Gaurav Banerjee

Former Disney executive Gaurav Banerjee has been named Managing Director and CEO of Sony Pictures Networks India. The appointment will take effect on August 26 at the latest, subject to regulatory approvals, and was announced on June 24. Upon completing 25 years in that role, Mr. Banerjee will take over as Non-Executive Chairman, replacing N. P. Singh.

Who is Gaurav Banerjee?

He graduated from St Stephens, Delhi, with an undergraduate degree in history and a master’s degree in filmmaking and TV production from Jamia Millia Islamia University. In the past, Banerjee held the positions of business head for Star Bharat, kids and infotainment, Hindi and English movies, and regional (east) entertainment, as well as head of content for Hindi entertainment and Disney+ Hotstar. In these positions, he led the creation of original television shows and movies in addition to overseeing the curation of content in multiple languages.

Career of Gaurav Banerjee:

Former journalist Banerjee started his media career at Aaj Tak as an assistant producer and anchor. After that, he went on to work as a producer and anchor for prime-time news programs at Star News. After joining Star Plus in 2009 as head of content strategy, Banerjee was instrumental in bringing new life to the network with shows like Sasural Genda Phool and Diya Aur Baati Hum. In 2013 he was elevated to the position of general manager at Star Plus, and in 2015 he became the president of the content studio.

For the duration of the fiscal year, NP Singh will serve as non-executive chairman in order to facilitate the changeover.
