OnePlus is preparing for a remarkable year. The OnePlus 11, the company’s current flagship, is already among the greatest Android phones available. But with the release of its first foldable this summer, it has grander goals in mind. Even though we’ve seen mockups of the phone and heard lots of rumors, new information suggests that the device launch will occur on August 29. Additionally, there are rumors that the OnePlus 12 will debut in December and arrive near the end of the year.
The information was provided by Smartprix and journalist Max Jambor; the former reported the information and the latter confirmed it. The OnePlus foldable will be available in late August. The OnePlus foldable phone has been referred to as the OnePlus V Fold up until this point, but it looks like that may change when it makes its formal appearance and could instead be branded as the ‘OnePlus Open’.
Jambor was able to weigh in on Twitter once more on the debut of the OnePlus 12, indicating that the phone would be on sale in China sometime in December. There aren’t many further specifications revealed, however we did get to view some renderings of the OnePlus 12, which were based on a prototype that was being tested. Although it shares many visual characteristics with the OnePlus 11, there are major differences, most notably the addition of a new periscope camera on the back.
The pricing will be the most important factor in this situation given that we know how the smartphones will look and have heard reports of their specifications. This is especially important for the impending foldable phone. While Samsung has kept a tight hold on the foldable market in the US, we have seen major entries from rivals that want to overtake Samsung’s dominance. Therefore, OnePlus may win the award for the best foldable smartphone this year if everything goes according to plan.
