The first day of the nine-day Shardiya Navratri festival, which is dedicated to Maa Durga and her nine avatars, has arrived (Kalash or Ghatsthapna). Hindus across the nation enthusiastically celebrate the occasion.
There are many different ways to celebrate Navratri in India. North India hosts Ramlila celebrations, mostly in the states of Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Bihar, and Madhya Pradesh, during which episodes from the Ramayana are performed. The conclusion of the Vijayadashami narrative is marked by the burning of King Ravana’s effigies.
