Rajasthan Rajya Vidyut Nigam Limited (RRVUNL) approved the development of an 810 MW solar project to the state-owned NLC India (NLCIL).

In December 2022, RRVUNL released the tender for the construction of the 810 MW solar project. To win the auction, NLC submitted a tariff of ₹2.64 (around $0.03)/kWh. RRVUNL issued a letter of intent for the same.

The project is a component of the 2 GW Ultra Mega Solar Park owned and operated by RRVUNL in Rajasthan’s Pugal Tehsil.

RRVUNL will supply the project with the land needed and the power evacuation system connected to the State Transmission Utility.

Power purchase agreements (PPAs) of 25 years will be made between NLC and RVUNL. The project will supply the state distribution firms with the electricity it produces.

Within 15 months of the PPA’s signing, NLC must begin operating the solar plant.

When completed, the project would add to Rajasthan’s total NLC capacity of 1.36 GW, of which 1.1 GW will come from renewable energy sources.

Over the period of its operating life, the project is expected to produce over 50 billion green power units and offset over 50,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions.

Other solar projects that NLC is currently working on include a 50 MW project on reclaimed land, a 200 MW project across India under the Central Public Sector Undertaking (CPSU) program, a 300 MW project under the CPSU program in Barsingsar, Rajasthan, and a 600 MW project in Gujarat.

NLC Chairman and Managing Director Prasanna Kumar Motupalli said that the organization was the first central public sector corporation to install 1 GW of renewable energy capacity.

The installed renewable energy capacity at NLC is 1.4 GW, while there are 2.11 GW worth of projects in the works.

For the balance of system works for a 600 MW grid-connected solar plant at Khavda, Gujarat, NLC has requested bids.
