The renowned shot putter Dame Valerie Adams, a two-time Olympic gold and four-time world champion, has been selected the international event ambassador for the 16th Tata Consultancy Services World 10K Bengaluru, which takes place on Sunday, April 28.

The 39-year-old New Zealander is possibly the all-time greatest female shot putter. She has competed in five Olympics games and has won two gold (in 2008 and 2012), one silver (in 2016), and one bronze (in 2020). Notably, Adams has won three Commonwealth Games titles, four global indoor championships, and an amazing record of four gold medals in a row in the global Championships.

Speaking about her involvement with the 16th TCS World 10K Bengaluru, Adams remarked,  “The power of sports to unite us for a greater purpose is truly remarkable. I am thrilled to participate in the Tata Consultancy Services World 10K Bengaluru, an event that embodies this spirit of unity and community. The increasing enthusiasm for running in India is both motivating and inspiring, and I am excited to witness the boundless energy and passion that participants will bring to the race.”

The New Zealander is just the third woman to win world titles at the youth, junior, and senior levels, among her many other achievements. Additionally, she is the first female WA World Championship individual champion to win four in a row. Adams received the 2014 IAAF World Athlete of the Year award.

Adams has enthusiastically assumed the position of a spokeswoman for women in sports since she announced her retirement from competitive athletics, addressing a number of important problems. She is currently the renowned Chair of the World Athletes Commission, where she carries on her global advocacy for the welfare and rights of athletes. Valerie has also given herself over to coaching. Her incredible career aside, she has continued to be deeply involved in the Paralympic arena, working closely with her sister Lisa Adams and other competitors to offer support and guidance that has helped them grow and succeed.

“We are immensely proud to have Valerie Adams join us as the 16th edition of the TCS World 10K Bengaluru’s international event ambassador. Valerie is one of the world’s most accomplished athletes and a living example of excellence, tenacity, and resolve. Athletes all throughout the world are inspired by her incredible accomplishments in the field and her dedication to the growth of sports, especially for women and para-athletes. At the TCS World 10K Bengaluru, we’re excited to celebrate our shared athleticism and sense of community,” explained Vivek Singh, Jr. MD of Procam International.
