During her speech at the United Nations General Assembly in New York, actress Priyanka Chopra stated that “all is not well with our world.” Priyanka also shared several videos and photos from the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Moment at the UNGA on Instagram. Priyanka posed with Vanessa Nakate in one of the photos. In another photo, Priyanka smiled as she posed with Malala Yousafzai, Amanda Gorman, Somaya Faruqi, and Judith Hill. She also posted a short video of Amanda speaking at the event.

Priyanka said in a video clip, “We gather today at a critical juncture in our world, when global solidarity is more important than ever. As countries continue to struggle with the devastating effects of the Covid-19 pandemic, the climate crisis disrupts lives and livelihoods, conflicts erupt, and poverty, displacement, hunger, and inequalities erode the very foundation of the more just world for which we have fought for so long. And, as we all know, our world is in disarray. These crises, however, did not occur by chance, and they can be resolved with a plan. We have a strategy. The United Nations Sustainable Development Goals are a to-do list for the entire world.”

Priyanka captioned the post when she shared it: “Walking through the gates of the United Nations this morning to speak at the United Nations General Assembly for the second time as a proud representative of @unicef gave me pause. The Sustainable Development Goals are at the top of this year’s agenda. It was all about action, ambition, and hope today. It was about what we needed to do as a group to make the SDGs a reality, and we don’t have time to waste. Thank you, Secretary-General @antonioguterres, for having me here today.”

“The Transforming Education Summit was the second event in which I had the honour of participating. It’s difficult to believe that nearly two-thirds of children in low-, middle-, and high-income countries cannot read and comprehend a simple story. They have been let down by the system. Education, as US Secretary of Education @seccardona so candidly stated, is the great equaliser, but if we continue to do what we have done, we will get what we have gotten “She continued.

“We owe every child this basic birthright, an equal chance to learn and reach their full potential. And as the incredible Amanda Gorman said, ‘I dare you to shape our fate. Above all, I dare you to do good, so that the world might be great’. Here are some highlights from today,” she concluded. Reacting to the post, Amanda wrote, “Loved seeing you.” Priyanka became the Global UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador in 2016.
