Hardik Pandya said on Monday that when he leads a new India T20 team against Sri Lanka, he wants to win a world title in any format.
For the three Twenty20 matches that begin on Tuesday in Mumbai, all-rounder Pandya has been named captain of the 16-member team, which will be without regular skipper Rohit Sharma and star batsman Virat Kohli.
As India gets ready to host the 50-over World Cup later this year, both Rohit and Kohli will play in the three one-day internationals that follow.
On the eve of the Sri Lanka series, Pandya told reporters, “The biggest new year resolution is to win the World Cup.”
India would try to “go out there and give everything”, he said, adding: “I think things are looking bright.”
India, led by Rohit, lost to England in the T20 World Cup semi-finals in Australia last year, ending their hopes of winning their first world title since the 2013 Champions Trophy.
