On Monday, IndiGo announced the launch of flights to seven new international destinations by March 2025, which will increase the total number of international destinations served by the airline to over 40. As India’s largest low-cost airline, IndiGo also introduced its new business class service, ‘IndiGo Stretch,’ which will be available for booking on the Delhi-Mumbai route starting Tuesday, August 6, with prices beginning at Rs 18,018. However, the actual travel for this service will commence in mid-November.

During the airline’s 18th-anniversary celebration in New Delhi, CEO Peter Elbers shared that the business class service would gradually expand. The plan is to offer this premium service on most metro-to-metro routes, with all 12 routes expected to be operational by the end of 2025.

IndiGo co-founder Rahul Bhatia, addressing stakeholder concerns following his June sale of a 2 percent stake in InterGlobe Aviation Ltd-the parent company of IndiGo-in a block trade estimated to be worth over Rs 3,360 crore, reassured the audience of his continued commitment to the airline. He clarified that the stake sale was intended to raise funds for other business ventures within InterGlobe Enterprises and for general corporate purposes. “InterGlobe and I are here to stay,” an emotional Bhatia affirmed at the event.

Elbers highlighted that since its founding in 2006, IndiGo has served over 600 million travelers and now operates approximately 400 domestic routes. Currently, the airline serves 34 international destinations, but with the addition of the seven new destinations, this number will exceed 40 by the end of the year. IndiGo presently operates more than 2,000 flights daily.

IndiGo’s new business class will feature a coupe-style, two-seat wide bay design, providing premium seats with a pitch (the distance between seats on a plane) of 38 inches and a width of 21.3 inches.

Additionally, the airline announced the launch of its highly anticipated loyalty program-IndiGo BluChip. Members of this program will earn ‘IndiGo BluChips’ on every IndiGo flight based on their spending, providing a new way for frequent flyers to accumulate rewards.

Overall, these announcements mark significant milestones for IndiGo as it continues to expand its services and enhance its offerings to meet the growing demands of its passengers.
