After defeating Canisius 92-69 in the Bronco Classic tournament championship, Western Michigan men’s basketball is now 2-3 on the season.
WMU led the game by a wide margin in the first half. Canisius’ bench lost the session versus WMU’s bench 13 to 0. Canisius scored 3-2 more second-chance points than WMU. In terms of fastbreak points, WMU defeated Canisius 26–6 and 10–3. At the half, the Broncos had a 41–24 advantage.
The WMU bench outscored the Canisius bench 28–13 in the second half of the match. With 28 points to their 13 in the paint, WMU maintained the lead.
Max Burton’s goal with eight minutes remaining in the game put WMU ahead by thirty. The Broncos won by a score of 23, which was the game’s biggest margin.
WMU finished the game with a 60% free throw percentage and a 63% field goal percentage. With 15, Markhi Strickland was the team’s top scorer. Brandon Muntu, JaVaughn Hannah, and Owen Lobsinger all scored 14 points apiece to help the team defeat Canisius.
WMU, now ranked eighth in the Mid-American Conference, will host South Dakota on November 18 at 7 p.m. on ESPN+.
