The country’s first electric vehicle, the Maruti Suzuki e Vitara, has been unveiled by the top Indian automaker. In 2024, the e Vitara debuted worldwide in Milan, Italy. It’s interesting to note that the e Vitara will debut in India before travelling to Europe, Japan, and possibly Central and South America. Additionally, the Suzuki Motor Gujarat (SMG) plant will create the Maruti Suzuki e Vitara, which will then be sold to other markets.

The HEARTECT-e, a recently created platform designed especially for battery electric vehicles, serves as the foundation for the Maruti Suzuki e Vitara. According to the business, the platform has a low overhang and a lightweight frame with high-voltage protection, which maximises the amount of space inside.

Additionally, the removal of underfloor members from the platform’s main floor has maximised the battery capacity. The Maruti Suzuki e Vitara’s measurements are as follows: it is 1,800 mm wide, 4,275 mm long, and 1,635 mm height. Its wheelbase measures 2,700 mm. Its ground clearance is 180 mm, and its turning radius is 5.2 meters.

Maruti Suzuki e Vitara: Design

The Maruti Suzuki eVX concept, which was unveiled at the 2023 Auto Expo, is basically the production version of the Maruti Suzuki e Vitara. Reminiscent to the eVX concept, the EV’s front end is equipped with LED headlamps with three-piece Y-shaped DRLs. In order to give it a butch appearance, it also has a blacked-out bumper with built-in fog lamps and sturdy silver skid plates up front.

Depending on the model, the e Vitara’s flanks are equipped with a set of 18- or 19-inch alloy wheels, body cladding, and rear door handles mounted on the C-pillar. Its athletic appearance is enhanced by the roof spoiler, shark fin antenna, and connected LED tail lights on the back.

Maruti Suzuki e Vitara: Specs

There are two battery pack configurations available for the e Vitara: 49 kWh and 61 kWh. It’s interesting that both battery packs are sent to India. The larger battery pack has a stated range of up to 500 km, while the range of the 49 kWh battery pack has not yet been disclosed. One of the main goals with the e Vitara, according to Toshihiro Suzuki, Representative Director and President at Suzuki Motor Corporation, was to provide a range of up to 500 kilometres during a recent press conference.

It’s interesting to note that the e Vitara distinguishes the Maruti Suzuki EV from rivals by adding off-road capability with an electric 4WD system. This technology, known as the ALLGRIP-e system, offers precise control and reactivity thanks to its two independent eAxles in the front and rear.

Additionally, the 4WD system has a feature called Trail Mode that enables the e Vitara to navigate across tough terrain. By doing this, the vehicle disperses torque in the opposite direction and applies brakes to spinning tires. The 49 kWh battery is only available in the 2WD version and is expected to provide 142 horsepower and 189 Nm of torque. The 2WD model’s 61 kWh battery produces 172 horsepower and 189 Nm of torque. With the same power output, the 4WD produces 300 Nm of torque.

Maruti Suzuki e Vitara: Features

The inside of the Maruti Suzuki e-Vitara is dual-toned, with air vents and the dashboard featuring squared-off features. The two integrated screens, which double as the infotainment system and the digital driver’s display, are the cabin’s main feature. It also has a steering wheel with two spokes. A 10.1-inch infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a panoramic sunroof, ventilated seats, automated climate control, a wireless charger, a 360-degree camera, and linked car technology are just a few of the high-end features that the e-Vitara boasts.

In the e-Vitara, Maruti has also added a number of firsts, like Level-2 ADAS for increased safety. Six airbags, front and rear parking sensors, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control, and an electronic parking brake with auto-hold feature are among the extra safety features.

Maruti Suzuki e Vitara: Price and launch

The Maruti Suzuki e Vitara’s pricing will be disclosed later. The most expensive 61 kWh battery pack option with AWD capability should cost between 17 lakh ex-showroom and 26 lakh. The business had previously stated that the EV would be offered through the Nexa channel and would be on the market starting in the spring of 2025 (March to April). The e Vitara will compete with the Hyundai Creta Electric, Tata Curvv EV, MG ZS EV, and Mahindra BE 6 when it launches.
