Denza, the luxury electric vehicle brand of Chinese automaker BYD, officially debuted in Singapore with two models that retail for more than US$200,000.

The D9 large multipurpose vehicle, the brand’s first model in the city-state, was unveiled on Thursday, according to Singapore-based auto marketplace Motorist.

There are two versions available: the D9 Grandeur, priced at S$341,888 (US$262,000), and the D9 Elite, which costs S$296,888 (US$227,500). The Certificate of Entitlement, a licence needed to possess and operate a car in Singapore, is included in both costs.

As per The Business Times’ citation of a BYD spokesman, about 300 orders had been placed for the D9.

By mid-2025, the Z9 GT sedan, another Denza model, is expected to make its debut in the city-state.

Denza vehicles will be distributed directly by BYD, which has designated Vantage Automotive and Harmony Auto as its dealers.

At the Thursday launch event, Liu Xueliang, general manager of BYD’s Asia-Pacific sales, announced that Denza will debut in Thailand later this year and in Australia, New Zealand, Indonesia, and Malaysia in 2025.

In addition to Denza, Zeekr, a luxury electric vehicle brand, was just introduced in August in Singapore, and by the end of 2024, EV manufacturer Neta is anticipated to join the city-state. China is the home of both brands.

With 2,587 new car registrations in the first half of 2024, it held 13.9% of the market share and is the best-selling brand when exclusive dealer registrations are taken into consideration.
