With the multitude of 911 versions out there, this new Porsche Mr T stands out as one of the coolest, thanks to Porsche’s philosophy of focusing solely on “the essentials.” Those essentials? A flat-six engine, manual gearbox, and rear-wheel drive—all classic components that make it easy to resist more aggressive options like the GT3.
Under the hood, it features the familiar 3.0-liter twin-turbo flat-six engine, which delivers 389bhp and 332lb-ft of torque, matching the base 911 Carrera in power. Yet, it’s a bit slower; where the base Carrera can reach 0-62mph in 3.9 seconds (with the Sport Chrono Pack), the Mr T does it in 4.5 seconds. This is the slowest 911 you can buy, though it does pack more power than the previous 911 T introduced in 2017, a model that was inspired by the original 911 ‘Touring’ from 1968. Opt for the new Cabriolet version, and the time extends to 4.7 seconds—but when there’s a genuine six-speed manual with a unique wooden gear knob, speed becomes secondary.
Braking is robust with large 350mm discs and six-pot calipers in the front, and Porsche notes that the “reduced interior insulation” and the “auto-blip function” on the gearbox work with a standard sports exhaust to create a more thrilling sound. This model trims weight with lighter windows, optional lightweight bucket seats, and less soundproofing, which combined with the manual transmission brings the car’s weight down to 1,478kg—40kg less than a base Carrera.
Handling benefits include rear-axle steering, a 10mm lowered suspension with adaptive dampers, a specially tuned anti-roll bar setup for balanced handling, and massive lightweight alloy wheels measuring 20 inches at the front and 21 at the back. The car is packed with smaller details that set it apart: a shift pattern sticker inside, a spoiler lip inspired by the GTS, ‘Legends’ body colors, a stopwatch in the Sport Chrono Pack, and that walnut-laminated gear knob. If you skip the lightweight buckets, standard four-way adjustable sports seats await, along with a variety of optional design packages for customizing both the exterior and interior.
