In their opening encounter of the Kho Kho World Cup here on Tuesday, the Indian women’s team put on an amazing display against South Korea, winning 175-18.
At the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium, the host team astonished their opponent with their spectacular Dream Runs and defensive tactics.
With back-to-back “Dream Runs,” Chaithra B, Meeru, and captain Priyanka Ingle set the tone for India; the first two batches each scored a point.
The ten touchpoints that South Korea was able to secure at the end of the first turn were neutralised in part by this calculated opening.
With momentum on their side, the Indians launched a full-scale assault, led by the powerful duo of Reshma Rathod, Priyanka, and Nasreen Shaikh.
India defeated the defence three times all out in ninety seconds, increasing the score to twenty-four.
The “Women in Blue” extended their lead to 22 points with a fourth all-out over South Korea just 18 seconds later.
The team’s score was greatly increased by Meenu’s amazing performance with 12 points from “Other Dives,” while Reshma stood out with an astonishing six touch-points.
India had eliminated an incredible 16 batches at the end of Turn 2, bringing the score to 94-10.
India added three points with the “Dream Run” in Turn 3 while continuing to play with the same vigour.
In the second innings of Turn 3, South Korea scored just eight points, while India’s supremacy remained unchallenged.
India’s relentless dominance of the game was demonstrated in the last Turn, which prevented its opponent from ever establishing a rhythm.
