Instagram Reels, Inspired by TikTok, Launches Two-Speed Playback

Instagram, which is owned by Meta, is stealing yet another TikTok function. This time, users can long press on the right or left side of their screen to play a reel at twice the speed.
Videos on TikTok could only be 15 seconds long when it initially started. TikTok began to accept lengthier videos as the years went by and the app’s popularity grew. Because users had been conditioned to consume information more fast, TikTok included the ability for users to speed up videos.
New 2x Speed Playback Feature for Reels
Instagram Reels began by enabling users to upload movies that were no longer than 15 seconds. Videos up to three minutes in length can now be shared by users. Similar to TikTok, Instagram hopes that the new fast-forward feature will allow users to see more content more rapidly.
Since the purpose of Reels is to provide users with brief, bite-sized entertainment, the ability to fast-forward a video increases the likelihood that a viewer will actually finish lengthy videos. This can be linked to worries that our attention spans and capacity to concentrate on longer-form content may be being adversely affected by the increase in short-form video content.
Instagram Reels is a blatant clone of TikTok, so it’s not surprise that the site is including some of the short-form video platform’s features. Instagram has done this before as well; its Remix function is a clone of TikTok’s Duet tool.
