Realme, a prominent Chinese consumer electronics brand, has set a new benchmark in fast-charging technology with its innovative 320-watt system, dubbed “320W SuperSonic Charge.” This advancement surpasses previous records, outpacing the 300-watt technology introduced by Xiaomi’s subsidiary, Redmi, earlier in February 2023. At the Realme 828 Fanfest event on August 14 in Shenzhen, China, the company showcased this groundbreaking technology, which has now set the bar higher for the industry.
Fast-charging technology has evolved significantly from traditional methods, which typically charge a single battery cell or multiple cells sequentially. Realme’s approach revolutionizes this process by simultaneously charging multiple cells within a single battery, significantly speeding up the charging process.
During the event, Realme demonstrated their new technology using a folded battery design with a capacity of 4,420 milliampere-hours. This battery structure features four stacked cells, offering a 10% higher capacity compared to conventional designs. The company further explained that they had miniaturized each battery cell into layered structures to maximize charging capacity while maintaining a compact size. The cells are then folded to resemble satellite panels, optimizing space and efficiency, as shown in a promotional video shared on the social platform X.
Realme also introduced a cutting-edge power adapter, known as the “Pocket Cannon,” which boasts a power density of 3.3 watts per cubic centimeter. This adapter is not only capable of charging Realme devices at an unprecedented rate but is also compatible with other gadgets, including iPhones equipped with USB-C ports, albeit at a slower charging speed. For comparison, Realme’s previous 240-watt charger, launched last year, featured a power density of 2.34 watts per cubic centimeter and could charge the Realme GT Neo 5 in under 10 minutes.
The new Pocket Cannon adapter is versatile, supporting various fast-charging standards such as UFCS, PD, and SuperVOOC. It is equipped with two USB-C ports, allowing users to charge two devices simultaneously, with maximum charging speeds reaching 150 watts for Realme smartphones and 65 watts for compatible laptops.
In addition to the charging technology, Realme introduced the “AirGap” voltage transformer, designed to isolate high voltages from smartphone batteries during electrical faults, such as circuit breakdowns. This innovative transformer employs “contact-free electromagnetic conversion” to reduce voltage to 20 volts, thereby protecting battery life and ensuring the charger maintains a 93% power efficiency.
Realme’s advancements in fast-charging technology mark a significant leap forward, potentially influencing the future of mobile device charging. As the industry continues to evolve, Realme’s 320W SuperSonic Charge sets a new standard for speed, safety, and efficiency in powering mobile devices.
