Google is enhancing the Call Screen function on Pixel phones by incorporating artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities.
Google Assistant can answer calls on your behalf and determine who is calling and why thanks to the Call Screen feature.
Last year, Google introduced contextual answers. AssembleDebug explained that Google is now developing AI responses for the Pixel Phone app feature.
Personalized Responses for Calls
The planned feature’s screenshot, which the tipster posted, explained, “Call Assist suggests new AI-powered smart replies based on the caller’s Call Screen responses.”
Accordingly, the AI responses will be tailored to the caller’s response during call screening.
It is unclear, therefore, how the functionality and user experience of these AI responses would differ from those of the current contextual responses.
AI Model to Power These Responses
In addition, 9to5Google found mentions of AI responses in the Pixel’s Phone app.
“Dobby” is the code for the current Call Screen feature in earlier strings, but the most recent ones for AI responses use “dobbyAI” and “dobbyLLM.”
This suggests that these answers will be driven by an AI model, potentially offering a more tailored call screening experience.
