Google has launched a number of new features to Gemini, its digital assistant driven by artificial intelligence (AI). The American software firm has been creating features to get more people to use Gemini instead of Google Assistant.

Gemini Extensions

Google introduced the Gemini extensions for Google Calendar, Keep, and Tasks with the Pixel 9 series after announcing them at the I/O event in May. Up until now, only flagship devices have been able to use the extensions. On the other hand, Google is growing the Google Workspace extensions for the Gemini app in open beta. These extensions will allow users to utilise the chatbot to manage tasks, take notes, and create calendar events. Customers that have Gemini Business, Gemini Enterprise, Gemini Education, and Gemini Education Premium add-ons will be able to use the Workspace extensions for Gmail, Google Drive, and Google Docs, according to Google.

Simple on-screen prompt

Depending on the version being used, Google apparently modified the prompt in the Gemini text field from “Type, talk, or share a photo to Gemini (Advanced)” to “Ask Gemini” or “Ask Gemini Advanced.” According to Android Authority, the prompt on the iOS app stays the same whether the user is using the base or Advanced version, despite the fact that this update has been implemented for both Android and gemini.google.com. The Gemini homescreen makeover, which has been in beta testing since early October, is consistent with this modification.

Lock screen

Android Authority explained that a new feature in the most recent Gemini app beta allows Gemini to handle calls and texts even while the phone is locked. Before utilising Gemini to send messages and make calls from the lock screen, users might need to manually activate a toggle, just like with Google Assistant. Under “Gemini on lock screen” in the app settings, the capability manifests as a toggle labelled “Make calls and send messages without unlocking.” Google explained that even when this functionality is turned on, Gemini would still ask users to unlock their devices if the response includes private information like Gmail messages from their installed apps.
