On this day in 1918, Latvia’s assertion of freedom occurred inside Riga’s National Theater. The present Doodle respects Latvia’s Independence Day on the commemoration of this noteworthy second with a portrayal of the country’s red-and-white banner.

Commonly, state authorities mark the event by a grave laying of blossoms before the Freedom Monument in Riga, a 141-foot high landmark finished off with a copper portrayal of Latvian freedom holding three brilliant stars. Underneath, 56 figures encompass the amazing sculpture, with each representing a piece of Latvian history and culture.

A procession generally follows, and as day goes to evening, government agents return to the Freedom Monument to address the country and help residents to remember its flexibility while anticipating accomplishments on the way.

Cheerful Independence Day, Latvia!
