As anticipated, just before the top eight matches of the Guilty Gear Strive segment at the Arc World Tour 2024 Finals, fans were treated to the much-awaited gameplay trailer for Venom. The character is set to make his official debut in Guilty Gear Strive tomorrow, March 24, 2025. Originally, his release was postponed to ensure the developers had ample time to fine-tune his mechanics and deliver the best possible experience for players.

Venom retains his signature playstyle, strategically placing billiard balls across the screen and using his weapon like a pool cue to position them effectively. This allows him to control the battlefield, bouncing the balls in different directions for creative setups. His move list, which has been revealed in the latest set of images, hints at elements of Robo-Ky’s moveset, another character previously featured in the franchise.

His visual design has also been slightly altered from previous appearances. Now donning a shirt and a more relaxed fit on his pants and jacket, he presents a fresh look while maintaining his core identity.

Following Venom’s arrival, the game will continue to evolve with upcoming updates. Guilty Gear Strive producer Ken Miyauchi confirmed that frame data will become accessible in training mode by May 2025. Additional enhancements to training mode will also be introduced gradually after this update. Furthermore, a significant ranked match overhaul is slated to roll out between June and August 2025. This new system will allow players to enter ranked matches without needing to navigate through the online lobby. Instead of ranking the player as a whole, the system will assess rankings based on individual character performance, with seven distinct rank tiers determining progression.

Beyond Venom’s launch, fans can also look forward to new characters joining the roster. Unika, an entirely original addition, is scheduled for release in May, while Lucy from Cyberpunk: Edgerunners will make her debut in the summer of 2025 as part of Season 4. Before her official launch, Unika will be available for early hands-on play at Evo Japan 2025, running from May 9 to May 11.
