Volkswagen enthusiasts in India have been eagerly awaiting updates about the brand’s plans for 2025. While several automakers have already announced their upcoming models, Volkswagen had kept its fans guessing until now. The wait is finally over, as the German automaker has shared exciting news about its much-anticipated launch in the Indian market. Volkswagen has confirmed that it will introduce the iconic Golf GTI in India by August 2025, marking a significant move for the brand in the country.

The Volkswagen Golf GTI, set to arrive through the Completely Built-Up (CBU) route, will carry an expected price tag of under ₹45 lakh (on-road, Mumbai). However, reports suggest that the company may bring this premium hatchback to India in limited numbers, making it an exclusive offering. Once launched, the Golf GTI will compete with other high-performance vehicles in its segment, including the Mini Cooper and the XEV 9e, which boasts an impressive 282 bhp.

Under the hood, the Volkswagen Golf GTI is powered by a robust 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine, delivering a potent 265 bhp and 370 Nm of peak torque. The engine is paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission (DCT) for seamless performance. This dynamic combination enables the Golf GTI to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in a swift 5.9 seconds, offering a thrilling driving experience.

The car’s aggressive exterior design is complemented by a sporty and refined interior. The cabin features a black-themed interior with striking red stitching, exuding a modern and energetic vibe. The dashboard is highlighted by a 12.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system that supports voice assistant technology and ChatGPT integration. Additional features include a digital instrument cluster, semi-leatherette upholstery, auto parking functionality, a wireless phone charger, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and advanced matrix LED headlights.

Volkswagen’s plans for the Golf GTI mark a promising return to the Indian market, especially after the success of the Polo GTI, which had garnered significant attention. Meanwhile, its sibling brand Skoda is also gearing up to introduce the much-anticipated Octavia RS at the Bharat Mobility Show in January 2025, further fueling excitement among automobile enthusiasts. Together, these launches signal an exciting year ahead for performance car lovers in India.
