In a stunning box office triumph, Vicky Kaushal’s historical drama Chhaava has left Marvel’s Captain America: Brave New World far behind in India, raking in an impressive ₹116.5 crore within just three days. Based on the life of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, the film resonated deeply with audiences, reinforcing Kaushal’s position as one of Bollywood’s most bankable stars. In contrast, the latest Marvel installment, starring Anthony Mackie as the new Captain America, struggled to make an impact, earning only ₹12.5 crore across India, with a mere ₹4.36 crore from its Hindi-dubbed version.

Although Captain America: Brave New World enjoyed a decent global opening of $192.4 million, it failed to match the success of past Marvel blockbusters such as Thor: Love and Thunder ($303.2 million), Black Panther: Wakanda Forever ($331.3 million), and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness ($449.4 million). However, it did manage to surpass Eternals, which debuted at $162 million worldwide.

In India, though, Chhaava emerged as the undisputed winner, drawing massive crowds to theatres. The film’s rich historical narrative, coupled with Kaushal’s powerful performance, struck a chord with audiences, leading to packed cinemas and widespread applause. Its success even surpassed Sky Force, which had previously earned ₹112 crore, making it Bollywood’s biggest blockbuster of 2025 so far.

As Chhaava continues its triumphant march at the box office, it is well on its way to surpassing Raazi, further solidifying Vicky Kaushal’s dominance. The film, directed by Laxman Utekar, also features Rashmika Mandanna as Yesubai and Akshaye Khanna as Aurangzeb. This marks Kaushal’s second collaboration with Utekar after Zara Hatke Zara Bachke. Meanwhile, despite boasting a star-studded cast including Harrison Ford, Sebastian Stan, Shira Haas, and Tim Blake Nelson, Captain America: Brave New World has been unable to stand against the power of India’s historical warriors at the Indian box office.
