iOS 18.1, Apple’s most recent software update, is now available for compatible devices.
The upgrade, which was announced on Tuesday, is also being made available to Indian users.
This year’s WWDC 2024 event introduced ‘Apple Intelligence,’ a collection of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies that the new edition delivers.

The first stage of Apple’s much-awaited Apple Intelligence feature rollout is the iOS 18.1 update.
These include smart responses in the Mail and Messages apps, writing tools, transcription and summaries for call recordings, and an enhanced Siri with more natural conversational skills.
In addition to other improvements, the update introduces AI-backed Focus Modes.
Indian users must change Siri’s language to English (US) in order to use AI functions. Next year, additional language support is anticipated.
Is your iPhone compatible with Apple Intelligence?
iPhones beginning with the iPhone SE (2nd generation) can run the iOS 18.1 upgrade.
However, only a few models—such as the most recent iPhone 16 series and the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max from last year—can use the new Apple Intelligence features mentioned above.
Phone call recording, enhanced App Store search, new health features for AirPods, and a few small adjustments and bug fixes are available to users with devices other than these.
Future updates and anticipated features
Apple has explained that it intends to add more languages to Apple Intelligence, starting in December with localised English in Australia, Ireland, Canada, New Zealand, South Africa, and the UK.
In April 2025, an over-the-air (OTA) upgrade will be made available to support other languages, including English (India), Chinese, French, German, Korean, Italian, Japanese, Portuguese, Spanish, Vietnamese, and others.
In the meantime, the second round of Apple Intelligence features, which are scheduled for release in December 2024, are already available in the iOS 18.2 developers beta.
iOS 18.2 to introduce visual intelligence, ChatGPT integration
ChatGPT integration and visual intelligence are anticipated features of the iOS 18.2 upgrade.
Additionally, it will include an even more intelligent Siri with sophisticated features like proactive help, contextual awareness, enhanced voice recognition, natural language comprehension, and a better knowledge base.
Genmoji and Image Playground, which allow users to create personalised emoticons and images with text prompts, respectively, are additional anticipated additions.
