WhatsApp has rolled out a host of fresh features for both Android and iOS users, enhancing the overall experience across chats, voice and video calls, as well as Channels. In a recent announcement, Meta’s popular messaging platform confirmed the introduction of several tools aimed at streamlining communication and increasing engagement within the app.

One of the standout additions is the new “Online” indicator for group chats, allowing users to see in real time who among the participants is currently active and available to chat. This update makes it easier to initiate timely conversations without having to guess who’s online. Another feature gaining attention is the inclusion of tappable reactions, which simplifies the process of responding to messages. Users can now easily view others’ reactions and simply tap to mirror the same response, creating a more fluid and interactive chat environment.

iPhone users are also seeing some exclusive enhancements. WhatsApp has now enabled the ability to scan and send documents directly from within the app, removing the need for third-party scanning tools. Additionally, users can pinch to zoom while on video calls, offering a closer look either at themselves or the person on the other end of the call.

In terms of notification controls, users can now customize alerts to receive updates only when it truly matters. For instance, they can opt to get notifications solely from mentions, direct replies, or messages sent by saved contacts, effectively cutting down on unnecessary interruptions.

The platform has also expanded its event-related features. Now, users can create events not just in group chats, but in individual conversations too. Alongside the traditional RSVP options, a new “Maybe” response has been introduced. WhatsApp now allows inviting a plus one to events, adding an end date and time for extended activities, and even pinning these events within the chat for easier access.

Additionally, video notes with a maximum duration of 60 seconds and transcripts for voice messages have been enabled for Channels. Channel admins now have the convenience of generating QR codes to quickly share and invite others, simplifying the process of growing their audience. For ongoing 1:1 calls, users can now seamlessly add more participants straight from the chat window by tapping the call icon and selecting the add-to-call feature, offering greater flexibility in conversations.
