To boost business and enterprise adoption, Google is now granting access to its standalone Gemini app for paid Workspace customers. This rollout means that users on existing Business, Enterprise, or Frontline Workspace plans will be able to take advantage of the Gemini app independently. However, for those looking to use the integrated Gemini side panel within Gmail, Drive, Docs, and other applications, a separate Gemini for Workspace add-on will still be necessary.
The Gemini app, accessible through gemini.google.com, boasts enterprise-level security features, ensuring that any data, prompts, or generated responses remain confidential and are not used for training the Gemini model. Admins have the ability to manage how prompts and responses are stored, including the duration of storage. The Gemini platform meets rigorous compliance standards, including SOC 1/2/3, ISO 27001, and ISO 27701, along with HIPAA for clients in the healthcare and life sciences sectors, as well as GDPR regulations. This makes Gemini a robust, enterprise-grade AI assistant that can support compliance requirements—something Google emphasizes is not commonly available with other similar AI solutions on the market.
In parallel, Google has highlighted significant advancements in Gmail security, attributing much of this to large language models (LLMs). These LLMs have contributed to one of the most substantial security enhancements in Gmail’s 20-year history. Recently, Google developed a specialized LLM trained specifically to identify phishing attempts, malware, and spam patterns. This customized model has enhanced Gmail’s ability to detect and block abusive activity, resulting in a 20% increase in spam detection and enabling Google to process 1,000 times more spam reports from users.
Additionally, Google Workspace is introducing a new Security Advisor tool aimed at small business users. This feature offers personalized security insights and actionable steps for admins. Available through Google Admin and as an email notification to IT departments, this tool is provided to all Workspace Business edition users, which includes Business Starter, Standard, and Plus customers. The Security Advisor package also includes Gmail + Chrome Enhanced Safe Browsing, Gmail Security Sandbox, and various other data protection measures.
These latest updates reflect Google’s ongoing commitment to enhancing security and compliance for its Workspace customers while offering more advanced AI-powered solutions to improve productivity and protection in a business environment.
