An AI voice scam protection feature has been launched by Truecaller

Truecaller, a caller ID and spam communications blocking app, has introduced a feature called “AI Call Scanner” that allows users to distinguish between human and artificial intelligence-generated voices. This feature will help users stay safe from potential frauds and scams.

According to Truecaller, an AI voice synthesis can create a full voice clone in under three seconds. It stated, “Unfortunately, illegal voice cloning and speech synthesis technologies are already commoditized and widely used. They are evolving at an unimaginable rate of change.”

The “most responsive side of the psyche – the threat of our loved ones in danger” is what Truecaller predicts will be the target of the next wave of AI frauds.

As part of the Premium subscription, the AI Call Scanner is integrated into the Truecaller Android app. The US is the first country where it is being released, then India and other significant Truecaller markets.

When someone receives a doubtful call, they can press a special button on the Truecaller interface to record the caller’s voice. The company’s cutting-edge AI model then analyzes this voice sample and has been extensively trained to recognize the distinctive features of human speech and differentiate it from voices produced by artificial intelligence.

“The spread of AI voice synthesizers has increased the risk of AI voice scams.” Our objective was to find a workable and trustworthy solution before things got out of control. I am pleased to declare that Truecaller is the first calling app in the world to incorporate AI voice detection. Alan Mamedi, CEO and co-founder of Truecaller, stated, “This was a logical and much-needed extension of Truecaller’s scam fighting abilities. Truecaller already uses AI in many different ways.

Additionally, Truecaller is looking into releasing the capability for iOS soon.

According to the Swedish company, it is looking into ways to improve the accuracy of the AI model, speed up response times, and adjust to new developments in speech synthesis technology.

To increase its impact and reach, AI Call Scanner is also being explored for possible integration with other communication platforms and devices. One such example would be the creation of a chatbot that allows users to forward recorded clips for detection.
