Allu Arjun’s much-anticipated sequel, Pushpa: The Rule – Part 2, has made an extraordinary impact at the box office with a phenomenal start. The film debuted with a staggering Rs 174.9 crore net in India across all languages on its first day and maintained strong momentum by earning Rs 90.10 crore net on its second day. According to Sacnilk, this raises its two-day total in India to an incredible Rs 265 crore net.
The film has exceeded expectations worldwide, grossing over Rs 400 crore, according to Sacnilk.com. These figures highlight the immense popularity and anticipation for Allu Arjun’s reprise of the iconic Pushpa Raj. Pushpa 2 also set a record for the highest opening day earnings for a Hindi film, surpassing Jawan, which had earned Rs 65.5 crore on its first day. Pushpa 2’s global earnings were estimated by trade expert Manobala Vijayabalan to be around Rs 282.91 crore.
The sequel continues the gripping tale of Pushpa Raj, a red sandalwood smuggler, with Fahadh Faasil returning as the ruthless SP Bhanwar Singh Shekhawat and Rashmika Mandanna reprising her role as Srivalli. New addition Jagapathi Babu enhances the narrative with his impactful performance. Directed by Sukumar, the film explores Pushpa’s struggles with increased police crackdowns on sandalwood smuggling.
Pushpa: The Rise (2021) became a global sensation during the pandemic, earning Rs 326.6 crore worldwide and winning Allu Arjun a National Award for Best Actor. With Pushpa 2, the franchise appears poised to surpass its predecessor, breaking box office records and cementing its place in cinematic history.
Many people have praised the film’s directing and performances. However, its 3-hour-21-minute runtime has drawn some criticism. India Today noted that while Pushpa 2 is a solid sequel, a more concise narrative could have enhanced its impact by portraying Pushpa as a flawed, relatable character rather than an invincible superhero.
Amid the film’s success, the Telangana government has banned benefit shows following a tragic stampede during the premiere at Hyderabad’s Sandhya Theatre, which claimed one life. Despite this, Pushpa 2, released globally on December 5, continues its record-breaking run, solidifying itself as one of the most significant blockbusters of the year.
