Toyota unveiled the production-ready Urban Cruiser EV last year, after the introduction of the eVX-based Urban SUV concept. While slightly smaller than the concept car, the final model retains a strong resemblance to the Suzuki e Vitara, which will be sold in India by Maruti Suzuki. The Urban Cruiser EV combines several elements from the original concept with practical adjustments suited for mass production.
The production version is marginally more compact than the concept, with a subtler design. The grille and headlights, although sleeker than most conventional SUVs, are slightly larger compared to the concept’s styling. Its SUV-like stance is accentuated by black cladding along the body and optional aerodynamic wheels in 18-inch or 19-inch sizes. At the rear, a refined design brings updates to the concept’s tail lights and spoiler. Buyers will also have a range of color options, including dual-tone variations featuring a black roof. Measuring 4,285mm in length with a 2,700mm wheelbase, the Urban Cruiser EV is slightly larger than the e Vitara.
The EV will be offered with two lithium-iron phosphate battery options: 49kWh and 61kWh. Models with the smaller battery pack have a front motor with 144 horsepower and 189 Nm. Meanwhile, the larger battery variant delivers 174hp and 189Nm. For enhanced performance, the all-wheel-drive (AWD) version powered by the 61kWh battery includes a rear motor, offering a combined output of 184hp and 300Nm. The AWD model also features hill-descent control and Trail Mode, making it suitable for off-road adventures.
The interior borrows heavily from the e Vitara and includes modern amenities such as a digital instrument cluster and a 10.1-inch touchscreen. Premium features like wireless charging, an electronic parking brake, and connected car technology enhance the experience. A sunroof, a JBL sound system, and adjustable rear seats with a 40:20:40 split-folding configuration are standard on higher model levels.
The Urban Cruiser EV has ADAS features like adaptive cruise control and lane-keeping assistance, as well as advanced safety features like a 360-degree camera. Standard safety equipment is expected to include six airbags, ensuring robust protection across all variants.
In January of 2025, the Urban Cruiser EV is scheduled to make its public premiere at the Brussels Motor Show. Pricing details for the UK will be announced later in 2025, while its Indian launch is anticipated in the latter part of the year, with production localized at Suzuki’s facility in Gujarat.
