A photo from the set of Border 2 shows Varun Dhawan and Sunny Deol seat on a military tank

Varun Dhawan delighted fans by sharing a charming behind-the-scenes photo with Sunny Deol from the set of Border 2 on Tuesday. The highly anticipated sequel to the 1997 war epic is currently being filmed in the rugged cantonment of Jhansi.
In the picture, the two actors are seen sitting atop a military tanker, striking a pose for the camera. Varun sported a white vest layered with a blue shirt, paired with brown pants, black sports shoes, and sunglasses. Sunny Deol, on the other hand, was dressed in a blue shirt and green cargo pants. Sharing the moment on social media, Varun captioned the image, “Sunny days. Hameraa saab ji (Our sir). #border2 #indianarmy Jan 2026.”
The film’s production company, T-Series, also posted a group picture featuring key members of the team, including producers Bhushan Kumar and Nidhi Dutta, along with Sunny Deol, Varun Dhawan, co-producer Shiv Chanana, Binoy Gandhi, and director Anurag Singh. Their post highlighted the film’s themes of “action, legacy, and patriotism,” as they geared up for its release on January 23, 2026.
Directed by Anurag Singh, Border 2 promises to be a grand cinematic experience with an impressive ensemble cast, including Sunny Deol reprising his iconic role alongside Varun Dhawan, Diljit Dosanjh, and Ahan Shetty. The original film, directed by JP Dutta, was a milestone in Indian cinema, portraying the 1971 India-Pakistan war and bringing to life unforgettable characters such as Suniel Shetty’s BSF officer, Bhairav Singh.
A particularly special aspect of the sequel is Ahan Shetty’s casting, stepping into the world that once belonged to his father, Suniel Shetty. Expressing his deep emotional connection to the project, Ahan shared an Instagram post reflecting on the significance of Border in his life.
The director stated “More than just a film, Border is a legacy, an emotion, and a lifelong dream coming true”. Ahan recalled how his connection to the franchise began before he was even born, as his mother visited his father on set while pregnant with him. Sitting next to @nidhiduttaofficial, holding JP uncle’s hand, and hearing OP Dutta’s well-known tales, I grew up. I never realized how much those moments would influence my passion for cinema and my admiration for the Indian Armed Forces,” he added.
He went on to express his heartfelt gratitude to the filmmakers, writing, “Becoming part of Border 2 is a true honour. JP uncle, thank you for continuing to guide me. I hope to make you immensely proud.”
To mark this passing of the baton from father to son, the filmmakers shared a touching montage video. It seamlessly blends iconic moments from the original Border with Ahan’s emotional narration, capturing the spirit of legacy and patriotism that defines the franchise.
