Google Meet, the widely-used video conferencing application, is introducing a new AI-driven feature designed to assist users by automatically taking notes during meetings. In a recent announcement on their blog, Google revealed the rollout of the “Take notes for me” function, which is now accessible to Google Workspace customers utilizing the desktop version of the app. This innovative feature is aimed at allowing participants to concentrate more on the ongoing discussions and presentations, with the AI handling the task of note-taking in real time.

After the meeting concludes, the notes taken during the session are conveniently attached to the corresponding calendar event, ensuring that everyone within the organization can easily access them. These notes are saved as a Google Doc on the meeting organizer’s Google Drive, providing a seamless and organized way to review key points discussed. Moreover, if someone joins the meeting late, they can simply request a “Summary so far,” and the AI will generate a summary of the meeting up to that point, making that they are promptly brought up to date.

Currently, this new note-taking capability is available only on the desktop version of Google Meet and is limited to English. Google has confirmed that the feature, powered by their Gemini AI, will be extended to all Workspace customers who have Gemini Enterprise, Gemini Education Premium, or AI Meetings & Messaging add-ons by or before September 10.

This latest addition to Google Meet is part of a broader push by Google to enhance productivity through AI. Recently, the company also introduced Gemini-powered tools like “Help me write” and “Polish” in Gmail, which significantly simplify the process of drafting and refining emails. These Gmail features, unlike the new note-taking function in Meet, are accessible not only on the web but also on Android and iOS devices, although they remain exclusive to Google Workspace customers.

Google’s continuous efforts to integrate AI into its suite of tools underscore its commitment to improving user experience and productivity, making everyday tasks more efficient and accessible across its platforms.
