Happy Independence Day, Estonia!
Barely a century prior, a reading of the Manifesto to the Peoples of Estonia announced the nation’s sovereignty to a happy group under the overhang of Pärnu’s Endla Theater.
The next day, on February 24, 1918, this declaration of Estonia’s freedom was made official in the capital of the city of Tallinn, and the Republic of Estonia was conceived. The present Doodle commends this wonderful commemoration, perceived every year as Estonia’s Independence Day.
As the yearly ceremonies start with a lifting of the tri-shading public banner raised over the Tall Hermann, a stone pinnacle at the edge of Tallin’s notable Toompea Castle, Estonians can tune into a transmission of the traditional celebrations from the solace of their own homes.
Speeches of local dignitaries, a show, and the laying of wreaths at Vabaduse Square are each of the a piece of a TV program coordinated out of appreciation for Estonia’s 103rd birthday. So what preferable time over today to appreciate a Kiluvõileib, a customary Estonian open-faced sandwich finished off with a sprat filet!
