New leaked dummy shots show an iPhone 17 Air that looks chunkier than other models

A recent leak from Sonny Dickson, known for his accurate insights into iPhone prototypes, has revealed a set of iPhone 17 dummy models. These non-functional prototypes are typically used by case and accessory manufacturers to prepare for upcoming devices. The leaked images closely align with the renders shared in recent weeks, particularly highlighting the expansive camera bump that is anticipated for all iPhone 17 models except the standard version.
The images showcase the dummies from multiple angles, with side profiles clearly illustrating the significant design differences. Notably, the iPhone 17 Air stands out for its remarkably slim build. When compared to the other models, which have never been perceived as particularly thick, the difference is striking.
The dummies reinforce rumors that the iPhone 17 Air will feature a 6.6-inch display, placing it between the 6.3-inch iPhone 16 Pro and the 6.9-inch iPhone 16 Pro Max. According to Mark Gurman of Bloomberg, who confirmed this detail in his Power On newsletter, Apple had initially considered making the device 6.9 inches. However, concerns about potential bending in such a thin design led the company to opt for the smaller size. Gurman also noted that the iPhone 17 Air will sport slim bezels, a Dynamic Island cutout, and a Camera Control button-features supported by Dickson’s photos.
Expected to be as slim as 5.5mm, the iPhone 17 Air will feature a single rear camera, similar to the iPhone 16E. The device is rumored to offer a mix of premium and standard features, including a 120Hz ProMotion display and an Apple A19 chip (as opposed to the higher-end A19 Pro). Despite its slim profile, Gurman suggests that the device will deliver battery life comparable to other iPhone models.
In terms of pricing, the iPhone 17 Air is expected to start at around $900, aligning with the current starting price of the iPhone 16 Plus. Gurman added that if the device is well-received, Apple may further expand the concept by introducing more advanced features. This could include the much-anticipated port-free iPhone, a concept that has been circulating for years.
Moreover, the techniques developed for the iPhone 17 Air are believed to be part of Apple’s broader plans to release its first foldable iPhone, potentially by 2026. The foldable device is rumored to resemble the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold but with a more refined design featuring a less noticeable crease. If the thin design approach of the 17 Air proves successful, Apple might extend it to other iPhone models in the future.
