In the women’s division of the Ice Hockey League Season 2 here on Tuesday, Sham Eagles defeated Chiktan Queens 8-3 thanks to an outstanding effort by Padma Desal, who scored six goals.
The Eagles had a strong start to the season, breaking the previous record for the most points scored in a game. Changthan Shans continued their undefeated run after three games in the men’s division of their Royal Enfield Ice Hockey League, defeating Zangskar Chadar Tamers 7-2.
While Humas Warriors and Shakar Chiktan Royals played to a thrilling 3-3 tie, Purig Warriors stopped Sham Wolves’ winning streak with a commanding 5-2 triumph. In collaboration with the UT Administration of Ladakh and the Ice Hockey Association of Ladakh, the Royal Enfield Ice Hockey League Season 2 is being held at the Nawang Dorjay Stobdan (NDS) Stadium in Leh.
In the first game of Day 4 of the Royal Enfield Ice Hockey League Season 2, the Purig Warriors put up a strong show to defeat the Sham Wolves, who had never lost, 5-2. Imran Ali and Nadeem Sarwar both scored goals in the first twelve minutes, giving the Warriors an early lead.
Urgain Chosjor, however, responded with a goal in the 13th minute to keep the Wolves in the match. By the end of the first quarter, the Warriors had a 2-1 lead on the scoreboard. With goals from Sarfaraz Hussain and Bashar Ali, the Warriors continued to dominate the second period and took a comfortable 4-1 lead. Early in Period 3, Urgan Chosjor scored a quick goal for the Wolves, completing his double, but Mohammad Ali Baba’s final goal in the 45th minute gave the Warriors the victory.
Humas Warriors held to draw
Humas Warriors and Shakar Chiktan Royals fought to a thrilling 3-3 tie in the second game of Day 4. Humas Warriors got off to a strong start after winning 6-1 in their last game. Captain Waseem Bilal opened the scoring in the 12th minute to give his team a 1-0 lead at the end of the first period.
Shakar Chiktan Royals shocked the Warriors with three goals in 30 seconds, including a goal from Hamid Khan in the 28th minute and a quick double from Vilayat Ali that made the score 3-1. The game took a sudden turn.
In the last session, the Warriors put up a fierce fight, as Issa Mohd’s goal cut the deficit to 3-2. Waseem Bilal scored a vital equaliser in the last 20 seconds to guarantee a thrilling 3-3 draw just as it appeared the Royals would win.
Sham Eagles fly high
In the most goal-scoring game of the Royal Enfield Ice Hockey League Season 2 thus far, the Sham Eagles defeated Shakar Chiktan Queens 8-3 to start the season in spectacular fashion. The Eagles were in control from the beginning, leading 2-0 at the end of Period 1 after goals from Padma Desal and Rigzen Angmo in the first eight minutes.
The game’s standout, Padma Desal, increased the lead in Period 2 with a second goal. In the 32nd minute, Mepham Dolker scored a goal that momentarily put the Queens back in the game, but Padma quickly answered with her third goal two seconds later.
Before Padma scored her fourth goal to end the quarter at 6-1, Chhunzin Chamzo added another to put the Eagles ahead 5-1. Padma Desal continued her scoring rampage, adding two more goals in the 47th and 51st minutes to complete her six-goal masterpiece, even though Tsewang Yagdol gave the Queens two quick goals early in the final session. The Eagles set a high standard for the rest of the league with their resounding 8-3 victory.
Changthan Shans extend unbeaten run
On Day 4 of the Royal Enfield Ice Hockey League Season 2, Changthan Shans defeated Zangskar Chadar Tamers 7-2 in the final game of the day, extending their winning run. The Shans took an early lead when Dorjan Namgyal opened the score just two minutes into the match. The Shans had a slim 1-0 advantage into period two after the first period ended without any more goals. The Shans took over the game in the second period. By the 33rd minute, the lead had grown to 5-0 thanks to goals from Thinlay Dorjay, Tsewang Dorjay, Padma Namgyal, and Dorjan Namgyal (his second).
The Shans maintained a commanding 5-1 lead despite a late goal from Lobzang Tharpa for the Tamers. There was more action in the last period, and the Tamers’ Richen Wangyal scored to cut the margin to 5-2. But the Shans came back strong, scoring goals in the closing minutes through Tsewang Dorjay and Chamba Tsetam to win 7-2 and maintain their undefeated record.
