Indian badminton icon PV Sindhu tied the knot with her fiancé, Venkata Datta Sai, in a beautiful ceremony on Sunday in Udaipur. The couple, adorned in stunning traditional outfits, exchanged vows in the presence of close family and friends. The intimate wedding also welcomed Jodhpur’s Culture and Tourism Minister, Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, who shared the first picture of the newlyweds on his X (formerly Twitter) account.
Sharing his wishes, Shekhawat wrote, “Delighted to attend the wedding ceremony of our Badminton Champion Olympian PV Sindhu and Venkatta Datta Sai in Udaipur last evening. Conveyed my blessings to the couple for their new journey together.”
The couple is planned a lavish reception in Hyderabad on December 24 to continue the festivities. Leading up to the big day, pre-wedding festivities were filled with joy, featuring a Sangeet on December 20 and traditional Haldi, Pellikuthuru, and Mehendi rituals on December 21.
Sindhu’s father shared that the two families have been acquainted for years, and despite the wedding coming together in just a month, everything aligned perfectly. The wedding date was chosen to accommodate Sindhu’s busy training and competition calendar, which intensifies in the coming year.
On the professional front, Sindhu recently ended a two-year title drought by winning the Syed Modi India International tournament in Lucknow. With a dominant performance, she won the final in straight games, 21-14, 21-16, in just 47 minutes, defeating Wu Luo Yu of China. This marked her first Badminton World Federation (BWF) World Tour victory since the 2022 Singapore Open, a Super 500 event. While she reached the finals of the Spain Masters and Malaysia Masters in 2023 and 2024, those titles narrowly escaped her grasp.
Sindhu’s spouse, Venkata Datta Sai, is a well-known personality in the business sector. He currently serves as the Executive Director of Posidex, a data mining company. A graduate with a BBA in Accounting and Finance from Flame University, Sai later earned a Master’s Degree in Data Science and Machine Learning from IIFT Bangalore.
Sai embarked on his professional journey with a summer internship and consultancy role at JSW, where he gained crucial experience that shaped his career. Alongside his role at Posidex, he currently holds the position of Managing Director at Sour Apple Asset Management. A particularly notable chapter in his career was his time managing the JSW-owned Delhi Capitals IPL team. Reflecting on this experience in a LinkedIn post, Sai shared, “While my BBA in finance and economics equipped me with essential insights, the lessons I learned managing an IPL team were just as impactful.”
