Through the Google Play Beta Program, WhatsApp has released an updated version, 2.24.20.17.
With this version, users may now control how many badges appear on their home screen. This functionality is currently only accessible to a small group of beta testers.
When the WhatsApp beta for Android 2.24.11.13 was originally released, it was disclosed that development was under way on a feature that would automatically remove unread message notifications whenever the app was launched.
New feature aims to prevent notification overload
This new feature’s main objective is to keep consumers from becoming overwhelmed by their increasing amount of unread alerts.
Every time they launch the app, it lets them start again with a blank unread message count, ensuring that they concentrate on the most current and pertinent messages.
Thanks to the most recent WhatsApp beta update that is available on the Google Play Store, some beta testers can now control this option inside their notification settings.
2 options for managing home screen badge
Users now have more control over how their home screen badge behaves thanks to the upgrade. There are two choices available to them for removing the badge count from the home screen.
With the first option, the app badge can be updated after every view, precisely displaying the amount of missed calls or unread messages at the end of each viewing session.
The badge updates to reflect messages that are read but others remain unread, giving a quick overview of what still has to be done.
Second option allows for a clutter-free home screen
Regardless of whether they have read the messages or not, users can reset the badge count by selecting the second option, which is the default setting.
For users who would like not be distracted by accumulating old unread counts, this feature allows them to keep track of new messages as soon as they open WhatsApp and remove their notification badges.
