Google has made Imagen 3, their AI text-to-image generator, available to users in the United States. The picture generation tool is accessible on Google’s AI Test Kitchen and via Google’s ImageFX platform. Prior to being made public at Google I/O in May, Imagen 3 was exclusively accessible to a limited number of Vertex AI users.

“Imagen 3 is our highest quality text-to-image model. It generates an incredible level of detail, producing photorealistic, lifelike images with far fewer distracting visual artifacts than our prior models,” explained Google.

In response to user commands, the enhanced AI picture generator can produce images. Additionally, users can alter the image by marking a section and giving the AI instructions on what adjustments to make. Some limitations of the program include its inability to produce images of weaponry or famous people. Additionally, users can still get past this restriction by giving a description of the character they want to create, even while it is unable to make images of listed copyrighted characters.

Google has released a research paper outlining the technology. The Verge, a tech news website, reports that Imagen 3 was accessible to certain Reddit users last week.

The week when Google’s AI picture generator debuts also marks the launching of Grok-2, xAI’s rival AI system. Previously, Google halted Gemini’s picture generation capabilities after users found that the chatbot’s AI was generating historically inaccurate photos.
