Later this year, Asus will release a new Xbox PC controller with a built-in OLED display and numerous PC connectivity options. Above the Xbox button on the ROG Raikiri Pro is a tiny 1.3-inch OLED display that shows custom animations, battery or microphone status, and more.
During games, the OLED display, which has a resolution of 128 x 40, will primarily be used to switch profiles, check the status of the charging or microphone, pair the Bluetooth device, and display text or animated wallpapers. The custom animations very much remind me of the old Sega Dreamcast controller or the OLED display that replaced the Xbox “jewel” on the updated Duke controller in 2018.
The Asus Armoury Crate PC app allows for the customization of a variety of settings, including button remapping, joystick sensitivity, trigger modes, and dead zones, via two buttons at the top of the Raikiri Pro. A circular D-pad, four programmable rear buttons, and trigger locks complete the package.
Additionally, this is the first controller licensed by Xbox to feature tri-mode connectivity. That includes Bluetooth, a low-latency 2.4GHz RF mode, and wired USB-C. Despite featuring Xbox branding, Asus describes the Raikiri Pro as a professional PC controller. However, it only mentions wired USB-C connectivity to Xbox Series X and S consoles, which could indicate that many of the pro features will only work fully on PCs.
Additionally, the Raikiri Pro has a mute button, a 3.5 mm headphone jack, and an embedded ESS DAC. The Raikiri Pro’s exact release date and price have not been disclosed by Asus. We only know that it will be available in Q1 at some point.
