The film, which debuted in theatres a month ago, was directed by Rathna Kumar.

In announcing his third project, Gulu Gulu, filmmaker Rathna Kumar, who had his successful directorial debut with Meyaadha Maan a few years ago, turned heads. Due to its originality, the first look and trailer of the Santhanam-starring film sparked attention among viewers.

The movie, which debuted on July 29, had a generally negative reception from critics and viewers. One of the reasons the movie didn’t do well at the box office was that, contrary to expectations, it lacked good comedy. The dull screenplay added salt to the injury.

Raj Narayanan’s Circle Box Entertainment bankrolled Gulu Gulu which has Athulya Chandra playing the female lead in it. Vijay Kartik Kannan and Philomon Raj handled cinematography and editing respectively for the project which has music composed by Santhosh Narayanan.

Jackie is in charge of the film’s art direction, and he oversees the performances of Namitha, Pradeep Rawat, Mariyam George, and Sai Dheena among others in key roles. Tamil Nadu-wide distribution of the movie was handled by Udhayanidhi’s Red Giant Movies. Santhanam’s first outing this year was Gulu Gulu.

Sun NXT premiered the movie on August 27. Before the film’s theatrical debut, the digital platform had announced that it had acquired the OTT rights. The protagonist of the film is an adventure junkie whose activities disrupt his pals’ group of friends. The rest of the narrative focuses on how they overcome their seemingly insurmountable problems caused by his strange behaviour by taking a daring course of action.

Other factors contributing to Gulu Gulu’s failure to resonate with its intended audience included the absence of adequate character development and attempts at black comedy going awry. Santhanam’s upcoming two flicks are currently the focus of his fans’ hopes.
