Pondicherry
Pondicherry, also known as Puducherry is the capital and the most populous city of the Union Territory of Puducherry in India.
The city is in the Puducherry district on the southeast coast of India and is surrounded by the state of Tamil Nadu. Pondicherry is a tourist destination.
Attractions-
The city has many colonial buildings, churches, temples and statues which, combined with the town planning and French-style avenues in the old part of town, still preserve much of the colonial ambiance.
There are a number of old and large churches in Pondicherry, most of which were built in the 18th and 19th centuries.
A number of heritage buildings and monuments are present around the Promenade Beach, such as the Children’s Park and Dupleix Statue, Gandhi statue, Nehru Statue, Le Café, French War Memorial, 19th Century Light House, Bharathi Park, Governors Palace, Romain Rolland Library, Legislative Assembly, Pondicherry Museum and the French Institute of Pondicherry at Saint Louis Street.

HOW TO REACH PONDICHERRY
By Air.
Chennai International Airport, the nearest airport, is located 135 km away. The nearest airports to Pondicherry are Puducherry Airport and Chennai International Airport. The top domestic airlines including Jet Airways, Air India, IndiGo and SpiceJet have regular flights to Pondicherry via Chennai International Airport.
By Train.
Villupuram railway station is 35 km away. The nearest rail station from Pondicherry is Villupuram, which is about 35 kilometres away from the town. The railhead is well-connected to cities like New Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai, Chennai, and Trivandrum.
By Bus.
Pondicherry is best accessible by road, either by bus or by taxi. From Chennai, one can take a bus to Pondy from one of Asia’s largest bus depots CMBT (Chennai Moffusil Bus Terminus). Non-AC as well as AC buses are available from CMBT at a nominal ticket fare. The road from Chennai to Pondicherry is called the East Coast Road (ECR), which is a scenic road, we must tell you!
By Car.
Travelling from Chennai are in for a visual treat as the East Coast Road (ECR) leading to Pondicherry is an extremely picturesque highway, having sand dunes on one side and the sea on the other.
