The present Doodle praises the 98th commemoration of the Republic of Turkey with a portrayal of the country’s First Grand National Assembly of Turkey Building. It was here that the Turkish parliament, otherwise called the Grand National Assembly, proclaimed freedom on this day in 1923.

Today, the structure remains in the Turkish capital of Ankara as the War of Independence and Republic Museum. Numerous unique curios from the beginning of the Turkish Republic are protected in the historical center. The parliament moved to its present structure in 1961.

Glad National Day, Turkey!
